Comments Off on HOW TO PROPER CARE FOR AND CLEAN AUTOMOTIVE TINTED WINDOWS
One of the most common questions we are asked regarding window tint is the proper way to care for and clean automotive tinted windows. As a result, we wanted to write a brief article that explains the do’s and donts of automotive window tint care.
To begin, let’s discuss a bit about window film construction and how it adheres to the glass. As you likely know, window tint is installed on the inside surface of the glass. The construction of tint is such that once installed the outermost surface is a durable scratch resistant coating. This is what allows film tint to slide up and down in a properly adjusted roll down window channel for years without getting scratched. Although this surface is durable, it is not indestructible. Observe your window film at about 2-3 feet, look through it, not at it. Your film will take almost 7-10 days to fully cure. During this time the windows will appear hazy and there will be small water pockets caused by excess moisture trapped between the glass and the film forming a kind of “blister”. Do not squeegee, prod, or poke these water blisters, they will disappear once all the water has evaporated. DO NOT roll your tinted windows down until they are dry, 3-5 days, otherwise the film could peel.
The best way to clean your tinted windows is by using a soft cloth preferably a microfiber towel. DO NOT use ammonia based products such as Windex, unless they are labeled AMMONIA FREE do not use. Over time, the ammonia could react to the chemicals used in the film and cause the window film to become hazy and blotchy. [...]
Window tinting has become a very important part of our business over the past several years. Let’s face it, it makes your vehicle look better. Many of our customers have their windows tinted for visual appeal, but there are many other reasons to consider having a high-quality film applied to your windows. I will outline the 7 top reasons to consider a film application:
Decrease Interior Heat – Quality window film can provide up to a 78% reduction in heat transfer. This reduces the sun’s effect of heating up the inside of your car decreasing the amount of time that you will need to use your air conditioner. This can result in extending the life of the vehicle’s AC system.
Energy Savings – As stated above, reducing interior heat can reduce the demand for AC use. This can have a significant impact on gas mileage and a savings at the pump. who wouldn’t want that?
